Target Tuesday: Pucci-esque Brushes

When I was a very little girl, my Nana was a huge fan of the designer Pucci.  She had the coolest mini-dresses in wildly graphic prints, colorful silk scarves, and even Pucci-patterned towels in her powder room. All that beautiful color and design made a big impression on me and I still love Pucci to this day. So, when I saw these beyond fabulous limited-edition make-up brushes at Target, they immediately went right into my shopping cart.

They are are actually designed by Sonia Kashuk, but they are clearly "Pucci-inspired"...

And I absolutely LOVE them!

The entire five-piece set is only $14.99 and would make an incredible gift for any fashionista, don't ya think?

Pretty & Thrifty Thursday: Summery Earrings

I found these pretty, summery earrings at Target yesterday.

I just love them and I can already envision myself wearing them with my maxi-dresses and sandals on balmy summer evenings.

The colors are gorgeous! Turquoise is all the rage this season...

...and I can never pass up anything in a pretty periwinkle.

Only $7.99 each, but I think they look much more expensive. :-)

Pretty Collecting: Paper Flowers

One of my best finds while shopping the Paris flea markets were these pretty vintage paper roses.

They are very, very old and it's amazing to me that something so delicate could have survived all these years.

I love the faded, crinkled petals on the roses.

And the pale pink buds. Someone clearly took their time to carefully hand-wrap each wired stem.

How beautiful would it be for a bride to carry a bouquet of these down the aisle?

Forget-me-not Cupcakes

For a special Mother's Day treat, I combined two of my favorite things - cupcakes and Forget-me-nots...

Mini vanilla cupcakes iced with vanilla butter-cream and topped with lavender and periwinkle hued sugar-paste blossoms.

So pretty and delicious!

Mother's Day Breakfast in Bed

Why not make a special breakfast-in-bed for your mom (or wife) this Mother's Day? With just a few items, you can make her something lovely - without breaking out all the pots and pans or spending a small fortune.

Start with a pretty tray. I love this vintage floral one, but you can find many different varieties (at great prices) at your local flea market. It's practical and makes for a very nice gift.

Add a small bouquet of flowers.  These can come from the garden or the the grocery store...just put them in a little vase, glass, or tea cup.

It's nice to bake something from scratch, but you can also just pick up a yummy pastry (or two), like this almond croissant, from your local bakery.  Serve it on a pretty vintage china plate.

Then add a glass of orange juice and some fruit (like fresh berries or a pink grapefruit) and some coffee or tea. And don't forget the napkin! This one is cinched with a millinery rose pin from H & M!

So pretty, simple and inexpensive...and your mom will love it!

Never Too Old

So, there I was in the toy store yesterday afternoon with 'Mini-mini-me".  We had just finished up with her annual check-up at the pediatrician, which is NOT one of her favorite activities. And although she managed to get away with no shots this year, I still felt a special treat was in order.  Luckily, there was a very nice toy store conveniently located in the same building as the doctor's office. So we were wandering the aisles in search of the perfect toy, when I spied these...

Beautiful vintage-style bride and groom paper dolls!  I could barely contain my excitement.  When I was a little girl, I LOVED paper dolls - most especially bride and groom paper dolls!   Surely, Mini-mini would share my enthusiasm and choose them, right?

Nope.

Mini-mini would have no part of it. She barely gave them a momentary glance before she ran off to check-out the Polly Pockets and Barbies. "But, these are BRIDE PAPER DOLLS!", I called after her. "With pretty VINTAGE DRESSES!  In PASTEL COLORS! Do you have any idea how cool these are???"

Mini-mini just looked at me like I was totally and completely insane and continued on with her search for something "good".  I realized at that point that my efforts were futile and I wasn't going to be able to persuade her to get them.

So what was I, a bride-paper-doll-loving-grown woman, to do? 

You betcha! I marched right up to the counter and bought them for myself! Now, if only I could get one of my girlfriends to come over and play with me...
