I can't believe it's that time of year again. Time to plan the girls' birthday parties. With their birthdays just two weeks apart, I am always a bit stressed trying to plan and execute two fabulous parties in such a short amount of time. Plus, lately it seems that I have a million, zillion projects going on. So, this year I'm shaking things up a bit and trying to take some of the pressure off myself. For one, I am not having any parties at my home. I feel guilty just saying it. :-) I love having at-home parties, but they are sooooo much work. I am also...oh, horrors....repeating a theme from a previous party for Mini-Mini-Me's birthday. But, lest you think that I am truly copping out, I must tell you that it was a really, really good theme. It was a "cake-decorating" party and we did it for Mini-Me's sixth birthday. Sadly, it took place before I began blogging, so I don't have much in the way of documentation (although I will try to dig up some pictures). But, I figure, by repeating the theme, I get a chance to do it again...maybe even better this time around!
So, over the next month, I will be periodically sharing my party plans with you. Today, I thought I would show you my invitations for the Cake Decorating Party. I spent about three hours on the Internet searching for the perfect cake-themed invitation, but I just didn't find anything that I loved. So, I decided to just make the invitations myself. I drew my inspiration from these pretty cake stickers by Martha Stewart that I found at Michael's.
I knew they would be perfect, as I just adored the yummy, bakery-hued colors and sweet design.
To make the stickers "pop" on my invitations, I decided to place them on some pale aqua-blue scrapbook paper.
Then I glued them to these pretty pink and white polka-dot cards that I found at Paper Source (LOVE that place!)...
They came with plain white envelopes, so I wanted to spruce them up a bit. I bought matching polka dot scrapbook paper and used it to make envelope liners. You can buy an envelope-liner template kit at Paper Source. It's a great investment - it comes with many different sized templates and you will find that you use them over and over again.
I printed the party details on more aqua paper and glued them inside the card. These were so simple and easy to make. I am quite pleased with how they turned out - so bright and happy and girlish! Just the look I was going for!
More party details to come...
XOXO

Hello Jessica~I just couldn't start this new year without letting you know how much I adore my visits to your sweet blog. I've received such wonderful inspiration that I've applied to my creative venues in sooo many ways. I especially appreciate you sharing where you purchase the items you post.
My last order was the cupcake pans and now the envelope liner templates.
Thank you...I look forward to continued Sweet Surprises in the new year!
Sweet wishes,
Sara

love this! I blogged last summer about my girl's dog themed birthday party. I found it to be such a great way to record all of the fun little touches that are added to make a party fun. And the best part is it's all done with love.

How cute! And what a great idea to decorate the cake or cupcakes at the party. Will definitely suggesting this for my grand-daughter's next party.
