With all the shopping we were doing in California, we often found it necessary to stop for a little snack. :-) Luckily, Magnolia Bakery had just opened it's first shop in L.A. the week before we arrived!
I love Magnolia and have blogged previously about their New York locations. It seems there are zillions of cupcake shops these days, but Magnolia was one of the originals. The L.A. shop is huge compared to the NY shops and it's so pretty...
I love how there are authentic vintage touches everywhere. I wish those old tin cake carriers had been for sale! How pretty is that pink one!
Magnolia Bakery is famous for their pastel, butter-cream-topped cupcakes...
I love how they present them on simple baking trays with a sweet doily underneath.
Magnolia has much more to offer than cupcakes though - there are classic cakes, cheesecake, and how about some old-fashioned pudding!
It's fun to watch the bakers frost the cupcakes right in front of you.
My favorite part of the shop was definitely the jars and jars of sprinkles. I think I may have to try this at home...
Happy weekend!
:-)

When we lived in San Diego, one of our favorite places to have dessert was Extraordinary Desserts. They were the first place that I found that baked with lavender and I've been hooked ever since.

My mom has a cake tin with that same floral design but red. I've been using a Magnolia buttercream knock-off recipe and I LOVE it!

Oh my gosh I have that pink cake carrier! I feal like I'm somebody. I almost never see any of my junk-ah stuff in anybodys cool blogs. I got this pink beauty for my birthday last year from a coworker; her neighbor puts things out on the curb for her to find:) The kicker is, she and her daughters didn't want it! Lucky ME! Yea me even! When I took it to a family get together all my sister-in-law could say was "But Judi it's pink!" I gues that ment she loved it. Sorry I couldn't help rambling.

This is WAY prettier than the original version on Bleeker street, which a bit more hole-in-the wall kind of shop.
