Hi All! Sorry for my almost week-long absence - we've had a really bad cold going through the family and I had someone home from school with me almost every day last week. :-( We're not completely back on track, but I thought I'd pop in a write a quick post on my recent trip to Magnolia bakery in NYC.
Magnolia is a charming little bakery on Bleeker Street in the West Village (although they now have a total of three locations throughout the city). What I love about Magnolia is it's homey, old-fashioned appeal.
Every day, hundreds (thousands!) of people (mostly tourists!) line up to wait their turn to get inside and select their yummy, pastel-hued cupcakes.
Although Magnolia has become somewhat of a pop icon - having been featured on popular shows like Sex and the City and Saturday Night Live - it still retains it's humble, simple aesthetic.
The cakes remind you of ones your mom used to make...
So, is Magnolia worth waiting in a line that goes around the corner block? Most definitely!
Have a great day and I'll try to be back soon...
:-)
Jessica

My grandmother always had one of her special meringue pies or frosted cakes waiting for us when we visited her house. She was the best cook (and ran a restaurant for many years) so your post reminds me of her. Thanks for the yummy memory!

That cake is definitely worthy of what my Grandma used to make. I have to make it a point to visit one of the bakeries. I am going to keep a running list of all of the suggestions that people make in blog land and pay them all a visit. They are all so close by. Thanks for the wonderful post and delicious pictures!! : )

This Magnolia bakery seems to have gotten successful! And their food looks so good too! Wish I can also go there and have a taste of it myself. Anyway, I'be been looking for topics as interesting as this. Looking forward to your next post.
