I think Valentine's Day is one of the very prettiest holidays. It conjures up romantic images of lace and satin, ribbons and roses, and ruffles and bows. Nothing exemplifies the beauty of Valentine's Day more to me than my collection of vintage candy heart boxes. Many of them date back to the 1940's and some have seen better days - but their tattered and frayed edges only seem to make them more lovely.
This is one of my very favorites.
I love the delicate, pale pink rose and the lace-edged ribbon - it's so intricate. The box is covered with silver lace over a pink satin base. And the ruffles are so wonderful.
This is another one of my favorites. I think the details are exquisite. It reminds be of a vintage ball gown.
The millinery flower in the center has the prettiest frayed edges.
The pleated satin is absolutely stunning and I love the lace ruffles.
The gold leaves add a touch of glamour.
This box is slightly newer - probably from the 1950's. It's not in great shape and the flowers are plastic, but I am crazy about it anyway.
My favorite color combination - those periwinkles and pinks.
I have many more heart boxes to show you, but I know this has already been a long post, so I'll be back with more this week...
