As the weather turns warmer, my thoughts turn to outdoor entertaining. To me, there is nothing nicer than being able to dine al fresco. That is, assuming the mosquitos cooperate and stay away! I love to have outdoor dinner parties for family and friends, so I was super excited to see that Target was carrying some pretty paper lantern lights this year.
I found these in one of the outdoor dining decor aisles. They come in a 16 foot string of ten lanterns and sell for only $9.99. What I loved the most about these paper lanterns was that they were white and a perfect base for embellishing.
I guess I still have those Cherry Blossoms on my mind, because I decided to decorate my lanterns with some pale pink vellum flowers. All I did was glue the flowers onto the paper lanterns and secure them with an adhesive rhinestone in the middle.
These took some time, but they were really, really simple and fun to make.
I am going to use mine for my first outdoor dinner party of the season, but I think these would be lovely for a summer wedding or baby shower.
The great thing about this project is that you can totally customize your lanterns to fit your party decor. You could use any color or size lantern as your base. Then, you could embellish the lanterns with scrapbook paper cut-outs in any shape imaginable, pretty trims, butterflies, silk flowers, etc... The possibilities are really endless!
Just remember to use a non-flammable glue!
:-)
So, so pretty! What a wonderful idea!

These are adorable! I was in Target last night and thought of you when I was perusing the $1 area and then when I found the cutlery that you showcased before I had to laugh as I put not one but two sets in my cart. *s*
