My girls have been on Spring Break for almost two full weeks now and I have to say that I am really running out of fun and interesting ways to entertain them. It hasn't helped that the weather has been rainy, cool, and generally, yucky. But, yesterday it was all blue skies, sunshine, and warm air.
So, we decided to head to the park and have a picnic. It's such fun way to spend a sunny afternoon - sitting on a pretty blanket under a flowering tree, enjoying yummy food, and watching one's children run around like maniacs!
We are really BIG on picnics in my family, so we have collected lots of picnic paraphernalia over the years. I have a number of picnic baskets, but this aqua one is my most favorite.
And this colorful blanket is so cheerful - it just makes me happy to look at it.
To make the occasion more "special", we always bring along real plates (I love these melamine ones) and cloth napkins.
An impromptu flower arrangement courtesy of my daughters and a plastic egg cup.
Given the last-minute nature of our picnic, we didn't have time to make a true gourmet feast, but picnic food needn't be fancy. It's always nice if some chips are involved.
And, of course, dessert.
:-)

oOHooH! LOVE that aqua picnic basket, I saw so many of them last year at garage sales, this year, I must buy them and spray paint them....wonderful! I love your blanket, it looks so soft, and your plates, too! Why does everything, even an ordinary sandwich taste better outside under the sky?
(Where'd you find the melamine plates? They're so sweet!)
XOXO

Love it all, especially the flowers - how posh was your picnic? Lucky you. We are going out for a picnic tomorrow on our bikes around the dutch bulb fields in search of swaths of tulips. Can't wait.

All I can say is your blog is appropriately titled, because all these things you've shared are all 'such pretty things.' :-)

What a pretty picnic! I have the same pink checked/fruit tea towel & coindicentally pulled it out of my fabric cabinet just yesterday to hang in my kitchen! Now, all I need is a gorgeous aqua basket. :)

Oh my gosh that picnic looks delightful!! Where did you get those plates? I think the print is super cute. I might have to try that basket spray painting for this summer. What color was that?

Oh my goodness- I don't know how I came across your blog, but I have been dreamily perusing your posts for the past several days, lost in a trance of shabby chic bliss.
I am in pure love with those gingham/floral melamine plates!! Obviously this post is a few years old now, so I'm guessing even if you remembered where you bought them, they wouldn't have them now. :(
Any chance you've used them enough and would want to part with them as an item for sale in your shop? :) If so, I would love to scoop them up for the little tea parties I do with my two daughters.
Let me know.... :)
